Course Outline

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to complete the All Wales Passport Scheme Violence and Aggression.

This course is usually delivered over 1 day but bespoke packages can be tailored and shortened or extended to suit client needs. ie – de escalation and lone worker safety only, conflict management techniques etc.
This training course content and delivery mechanism is implemented extensively within Local Authority, Health, Education, and the Care Sector and is supported by the Welsh Government. It provides knowledge and practical skills in the management of challenging behaviour, conflict management and the use of break away techniques.

Course Content

Module A: Induction and Awareness including Polices/Procedures, Staff Support, Incident Reporting, Changing Culture, Employers Responsibilities, Employee Responsibilities, Concept of Risk Assessment

Module B: Theory of Personal Safety & De-escalation including influencing factors of the effects of personal safety, terms “Violence and Aggression”, trigger factors, communication skills to de escalate a potential incident, legal and ethical issues, cultural and gender issues, employer and employee responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

Module C: Breakaway including demonstrate and practice the use of breakaway techniques without causing harm, situations including: Hair Grabs, Wrist Grabs, Clothes Grabs, Strangle Holds. This modules also addresses the use of personal alarms

Assessment

The course is assessed by the completion of a “passport” document which records that the student has discussed, received a demonstration by a course tutor and the student has practiced each skill.
